When toileting a resident who is difficult or agitated, we have one caregiver hold the resident’s hands gently and engage in conversation about family (or sing one of their favorite songs)…while another caregiver does the changing. The key is to have the resident focusing on something that calms and relaxes them.
Our caregivers help their residents successfully deal with physical, mental, social and emotional challenges on a regular basis. At the same time, they also strive to help each senior to maintain their personal dignity. Here they share some of their experiences with the hope of aiding family members who are caring for an elderly loved one.
