When bathing or showering a fearful or resistant resident, we sit with them first to enjoy a favorite cup of tea or soda or treat, talk to them gently and ease them into the process. (We also warm the bedroom and bathroom, as most elderly hate to be cold.) Next, we let the resident know we are going to help them bathe so they can look great for the social event coming up in living room.
Our caregivers help their residents successfully deal with physical, mental, social and emotional challenges on a regular basis. At the same time, they also strive to help each senior to maintain their personal dignity. Here they share some of their experiences with the hope of aiding family members who are caring for an elderly loved one.
